Its distinctive Queen Anne architecture — including its recognizable dovecote turrets — made the stable significant enough to be included as a contributing structure when Dakota was listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and National Register of Historic Places.
In the early 2000s, the property became associated with longtime Warrenton horseman Ernest M. “Ernie” Oare and Dakota Farm. The stable underwent an extensive rehabilitation while retaining the architectural elements that give it its historic character.
The Oare family's deep involvement in Virginia's hunter and equestrian community continued the property's longstanding connection to horses and Fauquier County's equestrian heritage.
